Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry

Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) is recognized as the most employed ionization source for Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (LC-ESI-MS). In the analytes eluted by the LC system are directed into a capillary placed at high voltage (usually 3000 – 6000) respect to the mass spectrometer (MS) entrance. In these conditions the liquid phase is electrovaporized and the analyte ion are directed into the MS apparatus to be analyzed.
